This is a story about dissolving the bonds of family. It’s about Braden, nearing his sixth year in college, who has moved out of his parents’ house and up to Chicago for graduate school. It’s also about Luca, an Italian immigrant who lives with his wife and two children down the street from Braden. One evening while he was watching TV, Luca began talking to him through their shared wall. He spoke of his family and their struggles to adapt to life in America, and he spoke of the sadness he still feels over the death of his brother Paolo. Luca and Braden begin a friendship that weaves together their families while tearing apart others.
The world premiere production of "Vag Com 409.1" was produced by Lifeline Theatre in Chicago, Illinois in November 2006 under the direction of Michael Patrick Thornton and featured: Paul Coughlan, Spencer Davis Madsen, Nicola Cavendish, Nicola Cavendish, Chris Hoch, Gary Knefelkamp and Tara Wigley. The Second Stage of the Second City had their world premiere of "Vag Com 409.1" in August, 2007. The production was under the direction of Mick Napier and the cast included: Sean Flannery (Luca), Mark Beckett (Braden), Mike Beaver (Carl), Kevin McNulty (Steve), Robert Johnson (Chris), Peter Grosz (Bill) and Myles O'Reilly (Pete).The production of "Vag Com 409.1" by Theatre Seven had its world premiere at the 13th Annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival on July 21, 2010 at The Den Theatre in Chicago, Illinois under the direction of Carlos Trillo. Carlos Trillo, Liduvina Magarinos, Alex J. Romero, Francisco Sanchez, Eva Martinez and Jake Savett played the parts of Luca, Braden, Carl/Steve/Bill/Pete respectively."Vag Com 409.1" was produced by the Chicago Dramatists at Stage 773 in Chicago on February 27 through March 3 under the direction of Stan Rogal. The cast included: Doug Carpenter (Braden), Jon Fletcher (Luca), Daniel Abrahamse (Bill), Michelle Sutton (Polly) and Paul Tazewell (Carl)."Vag Com 409. 1" was produced by The Playwrights' Center in Minnesota from March 2–13, 2016 under the direction of Kelsey Copeland and featured: David James Miller as Braden, Jake Menner as Luca, Elizabeth Berger as Sarah. The production of "Vag Com 409.1" by Theatre Seven had its professional premiere at the 13th Annual Chicago International Latino Theater Festival on July 20, 2010 at The Den Theatre in Chicago, Illinois under the direction of Carlos Trillo.
